Welcome to the new and exciting hobby of wargaming with radio-control scale model tanks!

WHO?  H*E*A*T is a club dedicated to having fun with R/C tanks in the central North Carolina area.  The club meets regularly to practice tank combat skills in order to compete in regional "Battledays" at the AAF Tank Museum in Danville, Virginia.  The club currently has an Allied team called "702 Red Devils" and an Axis team called "506 Willing".

WHERE?  Since we feel that the main goal of the club is TO PRACTICE TEAM COMBAT IN PERSON, we are generally not seeking new members from outside a 90 minute radius of Greenboro.  This is an area roughly bounded by Hickory to the West, Charlotte to the South, Raleigh to the East, and Danville, Virginia to the North.  However, friends or clubs outside this geographic circle are welcome to take part in the tank chat on our H*E*A*T Public Forum.   If you are new to the hobby, please click on our LINKS page to find the RC tank club nearest you, and join the action!

WHAT?  Most of our model kits are 1/16th scale WWII tanks from the Tamiya model company.  They all feature the Tamiya Battle System, which uses infra-red technology to score hits during battle, similar to "lazer tag".  This is a fun hobby!   Modellers put lots of time and effort into tank conversions and modifications to their stock Tamiya kits.   Watch this website regularly for new R/C tech tips and workbench articles by the active guys in this club.

HOW?  The H*E*A*T Club supports of the RCACN Battle Rules for the Historical Team Competion Battles held at the Danville museum.  The Battle Rules are in place to assure tankers that they will compete on an even playing field, especially when official awards and titles are at stake.  However our club members reserve the right to participate in any non-RCACN battledays and fun runs held at the museum or other sites around the country.  We strongly oppose any tampering with the Tamiya System for competitive gain.

Club members enjoy taking part in all the different styles of RC tank gameplay.  But currently, the members are in unanimous support of using the full out "lazer tag style" gaming technique.  This means we "play the toy to the fullest extent" of the Tamiya programming.  This style is fast-paced and exciting because it is unencombered by subjective rules that are hard to enforce fairly.  Yes, we all love the WWII aspect of the model building and the battle scenarios, but we are pragmatic when it comes to the fact that these are just wargames with scale models, not real war with life or death consequences.

WHEN?  The club meets for one or two full days of combat practice each month, often at our "home field" of the Danville Museum.  H*E*A*T practice days cover the fundamentals of driving and shooting; the strategic planning of offensive and defensive goals; and lots and lots of combat drills using tactical manuevering and fire team communication.

WHY?  Our primary club philosophy is firmly based on winning through frequent practice and better tactics.   In short, we get just as much personal enjoyment out of a game that is a challenging loss as we do from a game that is a win.
